Lenovo telah mengumumkan laptop T420 di mana notebook Lenovo ini tampak biasa dari luar, namun sebenarnya Lenovo T420 memiliki kelebihan kombinasi unik yaitu ringan 1.8 kg saja dan masa pakai baterai yang sangat tahan lama atau terlama saat ini. Menurut Lenovo, laptop super ini dapat tahan sampai 30 jam dengan baterai sekunder tambahan. Ini merupakan fitur unik yang dapat sangat berguna bagi mereka yang benar-benar jauh dari slot listrik.

Hal lain yang unik dengan model Lenovo T420 adalah fungsi noise-canceling yang bisa memblokir suara bising/nouse, atau suara keyboard. Jika Anda cukup sering melaukukan voice atau video conferencing, Anda tahu betapa menyebalkan itu mendengar seseorang mengetik keyboard saat panggilan masih berlangsung.

Asus U20A: Light Up the Night

Salah satu yang langsung menyita perhatian pada notebook berprosesor Intel SU2700 1,3GHz ini adalah adanya dua tombol power di atas panel keyboard. Tombol power kiri adalah tombol shortcut untuk menghidupkan notebook tanpa masuk ke sistem operasi atau mengakses harddisk. Penekanannya akan mengaktifkan moda Express Gate khas Asus, yang berguna jika kita ingin cepat menyalakan komputer tanpa perlu apa pun dari harddisk.

Delapan detik setelah tombol power kiri ditekan, kita bisa mendengarkan musik atau menonton film dari CD/DVD atau USB flash disk, melihat foto di kamera digital atau USB flash disk, menelepon via Skype, dan ngobrol (chat) dengan instant messaging, termasuk main game online melalui koneksi nirkabel (Wi-Fi). Yang tidak bisa dilakukan hanyalah mengakses harddisk..

Untuk keluar dari moda ExpressGate, matikan komputer melalui tombol power Off yang muncul di sudut kanan bawah layar. Atau pilih untuk masuk ke OS, yang akan mengaktifkan notebook seperti jika kita menekan tombol power sebelah kanan. Pada kondisi normal ini, kita bisa mengakses apa pun yang ada di harddisk. Butuh waktu 1 menit 32 detik sebelum notebook yang bersistem operasi Windows Vista Ultimate ini bisa dipakai.

Yang juga menarik U20A adalah sensor cahaya. Bukan cuma di layar LED, tetapi juga di seluruh keyboard dan juga touchpad. Tampilan di layar LED backlit tampak terang, tajam, jernih, dan presisi. Di tingkat 50 persen pun, tampilan sudah tampak sangat terang. Tingkat terang LCD bisa diatur sendiri, atau dari sensor yang akan menyesuaikannya dengan tingkat terang ruangan tempat notebook berada.

Untuk menyalakan sensor cahaya, tekan Fn-A. Tingkat terang bisa dikontrol dengan menekan Fn-F3/F4/F5. Alhasil, notebook ini benar-benar bisa dipakai dengan sempurna di kegelapan total, termasuk di dalam pesawat terbang. Tombol-tombol keyboard pun cukup nyaman dipakai. Tidak perlu terlalu keras mengetuk setiap tombolnya.

Notebook Asus U20A praktis untuk dipakai di mana saja, termasuk di kegelapan maupun saat kita sedang terburu-buru ingin ber-Internet atau sekadar menikmati musik MP3. Fiturnya lengkap: 3 port USB, port LAN, slot ExpressCard, DVD-RW drive, port VGA, port HDMI dan 8-in-1 card reader, plus jack mikropon dan headphone, juga lubang security lock, serta koneksi nirkabel Wi-Fi dan Bluetooth. Begitu juga bundel software-nya yang menyenangkan.

Sayang menurut kami speaker Altec Lansing yang ditempatkan di bagian depan kurang jernih dan kurang mantap bass-nya. Selain itu setelah dipakai sekitar 1 jam, bagian bawah unit terasa cukup panas, sehingga disarankan untuk selalu menggunakan alas atau meja portabel saat memangkunya. Daya batere nyaris sama dengan waktu pengisian ulangnya, yakni di kisaran 2 jam 16 menit.

Satu catatan, spesifikasi unit uji kami agak berbeda dengan unit yang beredar di pasaran Yang beredar di pasar dilengkapi dengan prosesor Intel Core 2 Solo ULV Su3500 1,4GHz, RAM DDR2 4GB, harddisk 500GB, Webcam 1,3MP dengan batere 6-cell yang diklaim tahan bekerja 8 jam, serta tambahan bonus berupa tas dan mouse optik. Hasil uji

Jika dibandingkan Zyrex Sky 2712, kinerja Asus U20A yang memiliki RAM lebih besar ini kurang lebih setara. Sementara itu benchmark Battery Eater 05 memperlihatkan batere Asus U20A lebih awet sekitar 15%. Tetapi ini juga dikarenakan kapasitas baterai Asus U20A memang 1000mAh lebih besar. Ini kendati LCD Asus juga lebih besar dibandingkan milik Zyrex sehingga menyedot daya batere lebih besar.

Dell leaves Apple gasping for Air... and other recycled puns.

The new, high-end Dell Adamo XPS laptop entered the record books this week by officially becoming the world's thinnest laptop, out-slimming even the Apple MacBook Air.

The swanky Adamo is an incredible 9.9mm thick, compared to 19.4mm body of the MacBook Air, which seems decidedly out of shape in this department, even though the Adamo remains slightly heavier.

But while winning the all-important size battle will provide a welcome PR boost ahead of the pre-Christmas launch, the Adamo XPS offers a few new features which makes it Dell's most revolutionary laptop in years.

One of the hot features is an innovative finger-swipe system on the lid, which will open the laptop automatically. When the mechanism rests in a working position, the keyboard is propped up by the screen, leaving it at a typing-friendly angle. This is the first time we've seen anything quite like this. The USB ports, et al, are also housed within the screen, helping to keep the keyboard itself even thinner.

It's not all technological lingerie though, the Adamo XPS rocks 4GB RAM, an Intel Core 2 Duo 1.4GHz processor and an LED backlit screen. It also manages to squeeze in an Ethernet port into its svelte frame.

However, as with the last Dell Adamo laptop, these extra style points are going to result in a cost that will price out everyone except the playing staff at Flash Git FC, with it's sex appeal outweighing its functionality. It's going to cost $1799 in the US, which translates into £1,209 - but as we know we're often charged more of a premium for our gadgets than our US counterparts.

Acer Aspire 8940 drops a big one on the holidays

The Acer Aspire 8940 is an 18-inch beast that packs Intel's newest and Microsoft's finest in time for multimedia gift giving.

Acer has announced their newest Aspire notebook, the Acer Aspire 8940. Like the previous Acer Aspire 8930, the Aspire 8940 packs a massive, 18.4-inch, widescreen display, which can easily handle 1080p high-definition content. The screen will use LED backlighting. To watch bleeding-edge videos on the new Aspire 8940, Acer includes a Blu-Ray drive as well as five speakers built into the chassis. So, theoretically you could stick your head in the middle of all that sound and get a true, portable surround experience. To connect the machine to your home system, Acer includes HDMI output, and you can store plenty of extra media files on an external eSATA drive, thanks to the included port.

The Acer Aspire 8940 will also pack Intel's latest mobile processor, the quad-core Intel Core i7 720QM, running at 1.6GHz with a 6MB L3 Cache and 1.333GHz on the frontside bus. The monster machine will ship with 4GB of DDR3 RAM, as well as a 500GB hard disk drive. Of course, Windows 7 will ship standard with the new notebook, or rather desktop replacement.

For graphics and gaming, the new Acer Aspire 8940 will use NVIDIA's GeForce GTS 250M chipset with a full 1GB of dedicated DDR3 VRAM. Fast home networking comes through the Draft-N certified Wi-Fi radio inside.

To power this behemoth, Acer is including an 8-cell Li-Ion battery with a 4800mAh capacity. For ports, besides the eSata and HDMI, the machine will get 5 USB 2.0 ports as well as a multi-card reader built-in. Of course, specific specs and prices will vary, but Acer says buyers will be able to find an Acer Aspire 8940 with the Blu-Ray option, 4GB of RAM and half-Gig of storage, with the fully-loaded NVIDIA graphics, for $1350. The Acer Aspire 8940 should ship in time for the holiday season.
